I have to be honest with you.  I am so proud of us for not killing everything.  The sugar snap peas are our only casualty so far.  We go up every night or every other night to water.  We really need to spend some time there tomorrow or the next day and pull some weeds.  But our tomato plants are starting to flower and our strawberries are beginning to turn red.  Our herbs are growing really well and our corn is starting to sprout up.  I am so excited that I am going to be able to cook … [Read more...]

Well, this week was a big week for out little community garden plot.  We finished clearing it out and getting rid of all of last year's weeds.  We tilled the soil and made a plan.  I threw my first plan out and started all over again.  We went to a local garden store, Fair Oaks Nursery and Pam was incredibly helpful.  She spent time with us and really knew what grows well and how to get the most out of our little garden spot.  They have a sign that tells you what to grow now and we pretty … [Read more...]

Every year I have good intentions.  I am going to grow some of my own food.  Every year I kill a few pots of herbs and decide that I am not cut out for this gardening business.  But this year is going to be different.  I have decided that our backyard is not a good place to grow vegetables.  We have very little sun back there.  I thought about doing all containers, but decided against that too.  I tried to get a plot in our town's community garden, but all of the spots were taken.  So … [Read more...]
