Curried Shrimp and Corn Chowder

curried shrimp and corn chowder recipe

Right now, I am sitting in my office, trying to write this post, and I cannot tear my eyes away from Duck Dynasty. I cannot believe that I just admitted that to The Internet, but it is entertaining in a did-he-really-say-that kind of way. Focus, Bree, focus. Now I am talking to myself in the third person. This soup was an unexpected surprise. It is so easy, the hardest part is peeling potatoes and chopping an onion. You can do that, right? You can use frozen corn, but it really is worth it to … [Read more...]

Chili – Plain and Simple

chili recipe

Chili is one of those recipes that I never seem to make the same way twice.  Sometimes I want a deeply rich and exotic chili, a green chili, or a really basic chili.  I stumbled upon this recipe from Ali of Gimme Some Oven, and I now have my go-to recipe for a really delicious and flavorful basic chili.  Calling it basic is not doing this recipe justice, it is not basic in flavor at all.  It really is warm and comforting, and has just enough kick.  I like to serve mine with lots of … [Read more...]

Minestrone Soup

My friend Alison of this homemade life, had us to dinner a few months ago.  It is such a treat to be in her home.  It was the first time that we had ever met in person, and she was even more lovely than I imagined her to be.  It was like we knew each other forever, and our kids got along great.  A successful visit.  She made us this soup for dinner, it was so good that I went home and made it again the next day.  It is such a simple soup, but so healthy tasting, and wholesome.  Alison … [Read more...]

Carrot and Ginger Soup

Lasagna Soup

lasagna soup recipe

This has been such a good week.  Thursday evening, Wes and I went to a Dave Ramsey book signing in Kansas City.  We love Dave, and have read all of his books.  We are in the middle of taking Financial Peace University, and at the signing, we won $2000!  We never win anything, it was thrilling.  Wes's name was pulled out of a box, he went up on stage, and Dave handed him a big ol' stack of hundreds.  It really feels like our luck is changing, finally.  We are very blessed, but sometimes … [Read more...]
