Remember being a kid and your mom making French bread pizza in the toaster oven? I thought it was the best thing ever when my mom would make these for us. I am continuing the tradition, but fancying up mine a teensy bit. I made three different kinds Nacho Pizza, Tomato Pesto, and Garlic and Herb Veggie. These are great for quick lunches, weeknight dinners, or watching the game. You could prep all of the ingredients in advance and let everyone make their own. 10 minutes in a hot oven and they are ready to go. It doesn’t get much easier than that, does it?
I love to make homemade pizza, but sometimes by the time I decide to make pizza, I don’t have enough time to make the dough. Using French bread is a great alternative. I always have a loaf or two in my freezer. You can always use whole grain bread or a gluten-free option. A lot of times I just shop my fridge and pantry and some of the best combinations have come from using what we already have.
I line a sheet pan with foil or parchment and preheat the oven to 400°. More often than not, I do a combination of cooked and fresh ingredients. I like to add fresh greens, herbs, and fresh veggies to hot pizza. A little drizzle of olive oil, balsamic glaze, sea salt and pepper take a modest French bread pizza to elevated heights. The only thing holding you back from the best French bread pizza you have ever had is your imagination.
