When I was pregnant with my youngest son, I ate Urban Fries from Jack’s Urban Eats in Sacramento probably once a week. Urban Fries are french fries topped with blue cheese dressing, hot chili oil, red pepper flakes, and lots of chopped parsley. Admittedly, it is a strange combination, but I promise you, they are crave-worthy. I was so sick when I was pregnant, I would be sick 8-9 times a day until the day I delivered. I was not a happy girl, to say the least. It is counter-intuitive, but the only thing that would make me feel better was hot and spicy food. These fries always made me happy. And I am positive that they will make you happy too.
When I made these, I expected them to be okay, but miss the real ones from Jack’s. I did not miss them at all, these are even better, if-I-do-say-so-myself. I prefer the waffle fry to the matchstick fry. I think that the waffle fry is a better vehicle for these because it holds more of the goodness on top. The homemade ranch/blue cheese takes these to a whole new level. Some kick from the hot chili oil and red pepper flakes make these just spicy enough. But my absolute favorite part is the parsley. I love how much freshness it adds to these. I love parsley on just about anything though.
1 bag frozen waffle fries
1/2 to 1 cup homemade ranch dressing plus 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles
hot chili oil
red pepper flakes
chopped fresh flat leaf parsley
Add the blue cheese crumbles to the ranch dressing and mix well.
This was the only kind of hot chili oil that I could find. Next time, I would try to find one without sesame oil as the base. It tasted good, but a more neutral oil would probably be better.
Bake your waffle fries according to the package directions.
Assembling is nothing more than putting a generous amount of blue cheese dressing on top of the fries. Add hot chili oil, red pepper flakes, and parsley.
Ingredients

These sound amazing and I can imagine how great the homemade ranch/blue cheese goes with the spicy aspect!

This combo is also really good on top of grilled chicken. Or a salad.
Mmm, those look great. I love anything with blue cheese. If you are having trouble finding a neutral chili oil, you could make your own. http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Chili-Oil
You are right Carrie, I should have just made my own. Next time I will for sure.
Recreating this immediately. Jack’s needs to expand to Europe!!! Thanks, Bree. Tasty recipe… per usual!

Whatever it takes, I promise that these are worth the run.
Urban fries are a favorite of mine. I agree there is something pleasant about spicy food when you are feeling sick. It’s almost like the heat is burning away whatever ails you.

These look dangerous! I am going to make them this weekend for my boyfriend when we are watching movies.
Sounds like a perfect date night!
You know, I never met a french fried potato I didn’t like. I quite possibly have just met a french fried potato that I’d want to marry if I wasn’t already. OMG THAT LOOKS YUM. *ahem*
You and me both Michelle!
I am so excited that someone has tackled these fries! They are SO good — my favorite part of eating at Jack’s!! My bleu cheese-loving boyfriend still hasn’t tried Jacks, so I think I better cook these up quickly and impress his pants off!
Me too Katie! Love Jack’s Urban Fries!
I go to Jack’s all the time in Granite Bay and for some reason have never ordered these! Crazy, because they look so good and I flock to any kind of smothered fries
I’ll try their version and then this version, but I’m betting this one’s best!
