These cherry almond smoothies taste like dessert in a glass and make for an easy breakfast on the go. Lots of cinnamon and honey make this a delicious dessert, too!

Cherry Almond Smoothies

I am moving a little slow on this Monday morning. We had a great but very busy weekend, and it went by too quickly. After I send everyone off to work and school, I love getting organized for the rest of the week. I clean up the house, make a grocery list, check the calendar, and start prepping for the week ahead.

Part of the routine is to make smoothies for the freezer. Cherries are in season right now, and I love the combination of cherries and almonds together. Taking inspiration from my favorite cherry cobbler, I added lots of cinnamon and honey for a little sweetness. If you are making pies, cobblers, or crisps with cherries and have some extra, throw them in the freezer for your morning smoothie. And, if your cherries are frozen, you can use them in place of ice.

Variations

Smoothies are intended to be altered. You can easily substitute or add ingredients into this cherry almond smoothie. Below are a few ideas:

  • Chocolate: If you want a sweeter treat or have a hankering for some Cherry Garcia ice cream, adding a few chunks of dark or semi-sweet chocolate can take this smoothie to the next level.
  • Blueberries: Cherry and almond flavors pair deliciously, but you can try swapping out the cherries with blueberries for a unique twist. Think more of a blueberry pie than a cherry cobbler.
  • Hazelnuts: If you don’t have any almonds on hand, I think hazelnuts are the next best thing. Sweet and nutty, they would be amazing in this smoothie.
  • Other milk alternatives: The flavored almond milk isn’t essential in this cherry almond smoothie, but it does elevate the flavors. If you can’t find this kind (I used Almond Breeze), any other milk alternative will work well, too. Coconut, oat, or soy milk would be delicious.

Serving Suggestions

I devour this cherry almond smoothie pretty quickly. The healthy fats, protein, fiber, and vitamins make this a great breakfast, which would pair well with cinnamon bun pancakes or a simple plate of bacon and eggs.

I also highly recommend this smoothie as a lower calorie option for dessert. It can be delicious with baked goods as well, like my cherry buckle cake. What could be better?

Creamy, sweet, and just plain cozy. When I say I took inspiration from my cherry cobbler, I wasn’t kidding. It tastes like dessert in a glass!

It depends on how you define healthy. I would say yes, because it’s a great source of healthy fats, antioxidants, fiber, potassium, magnesium, and vitamins C, A, and K.
