I do realize that the month is more than half over. But I am proud to say that I published my monthly goals for the entire year. I’m a starter, not usually a finisher. This is big. And publicly putting my goals out there was very motivating to actually achieving them. I will for sure continue to do this in 2017.
November was a blur. Work was really busy and we traveled quite a bit. It was great, but I am glad to be home for the holidays. I love having Christmas at home. We are having a semi-low key Christmas. I decided to have an Open House and are expecting 65+ people to come through. I love having big parties like this. We haven’t done it in a few years and it is always worth the effort.
We are thinking about taking the kids to Montreal and Quebec City over the break. We were going to go skiing after the new year but decided that we don’t want the kids to miss that much school. Our holiday plans are up in the air, and that is totally fine with us. (We are waiting for the kid’s passports, if they don’t make it in time, we will go someplace else, TBD.) We are going to play it by ear.
(If your tween is willing to take a picture with you, always say yes.)
Right now, we are in a holding pattern. We are waiting for orders to see where we will be spending the next few years. I normally have zero anxiety about this. I love moving, I love the adventure, I love the whole process. I normally don’t even care much about where we go. This move is a little different. There are a lot of moving pieces. And until I know where we are going, I can’t commit to anything for next year. I don’t mean to be vague, but this potentially could be a BIG move for us. And with some changes for how I conduct my business and life in general. I am beyond excited about it, but the waiting is getting tiresome. We 100% know that we are moving, but the “where” is up in the air. We thought that we would know by now, but it’s looking like early January instead. Waiting on orders feels a lot like waiting to go into labor.
In the meantime, I have plenty to keep myself occupied. In the months leading up to a move, there is not a safe closet, cabinet, cubby hole, drawer. It all gets purged and it is one of the best feelings in the world. We are in the middle of our 3rd year, which is a long time for us, it is amazing how much you can accumulate.
December is almost done, and we are looking right at 2017. I’m excited about what is to come in the new year. 2016 was not a super great year, and a fresh start is looking mighty good right now.
NOVEMBER GOALS //
Make a schedule for the day and stick to it – I am not being as efficient as I can be. I feel like at the end of the day I am not getting as much as I would like to do and I’ve wasted a lot of time. I need to set a schedule and stick to it. – I did this, and haven’t really stuck to it. I have a hard time getting going in the morning. And I work better at night. I might just have to deal with this and work around it. Clean out kitchen cabinets – My kitchen cabinets are a mess right now. It’s like a free-for-all when putting the dishes away. – DONE. I need to do another pass through and get rid of some more stuff though. See my family over Thanksgiving and take family photos – I never take pictures when I go home and I need to. We get together so rarely, we need to document it. – DONE. I didn’t get a big family photo, but I might hire someone the next time I go home. it might be easier. Plan our Christmas Eve Open House – We haven’t done this in years and it’s the year to bring it back. – 65+ people have RSVP’s yes. I am taking a very chill approach to this. Buying some stuff, making some stuff, not stressing about it. It should be a really good time. Order our Christmas cards – DONE and sent out. I loved my card this year. It might be my very favorite one.
DECEMBER GOALS //
Shoot 2 rolls of film and send them to the lab. I’ve been collecting film cameras (I have the best readers in the world. So many of them have helped me with this project) and need to make it a practice to use them and actually send the film in.
Edit everything left to be edited in my personal photography folders. I color code my folders, and red means that they still need to be processed. There is a lot of red in there that needs to turn to yellow.
Purge my bathrooms. I need to clean out and simplify in these rooms. Badly.
Practice calligraphy at least 3 times a week. This is something that I love doing and I find it to be so relaxing.
(The mug rack is from Magnolia Market. You can grab one here.)
