February 2018 Goals

February 2018 Goals – Goal Setting Using Lara Casey Powersheets – Setting and working towards goals for February and checking in on January’s goals. February 2018 Goals - Goal Setting Using Lara Casey Powersheets

Hello February!

January was a good month, things slowed down for me so I had some time to rest and get my head on straight because I started homeschooling the two big kids. Well, they are doing an online public school program, so it is not homeschool in the traditional sense. But they are home with me ALL. DAY. Even as recently as this summer I said that I would never homeschool my kids. And here we are, five months later and they are now homeschooled.

Why did I pull them out? For a lot of reasons, and not one specific one. If we were anywhere else, we probably would have sent them to private school, but we don’t have any choice in where our kids go to school here, so homeschool it is. Thankfully, we were able to get into a great program that is the best of both worlds. It is an online public school through the state of Florida. (Florida is our home state of residence so we were able to qualify.) I don’t have to come up with curriculum or even teach, but I do have to supervise and facilitate. It’s only been a week, but so far so good.

We are doing this as an experiment, and taking it a semester at a time. If they don’t like it, or I don’t like it, they can go right back to traditional school in the fall. I am so grateful that there is so much freedom in the educational experience these days. I can only imagine how different my life might have been if we had choices like we do now. I was never a good student and didn’t like being in the classroom until college. I did really well in college and it was because of the freedom to choose when and where I learned along with what I was learning. I know that there are a lot of non-negotiable things when it comes to lower and upper elementary and middle school, but maybe a change of scenery and delivery method might create a more desirable learning environment?

The plus side for me is that it is forcing me to be more organized and since I have to be available, I have gotten a lot of work done. We all work from my big dining room table and we stick closely to our daily schedule. It’s sort of nice to have more structure in my day.

January was a catch-up month and I did a lot of behind the scenes maintenance. The not-so-fun stuff that needs to be done to keep my websites up and running and to start the new year on the right foot. Not sexy, but you feel so good when you cross these things off of your to-do list.

How was your January? What goals did you accomplish this month?

Launch new photography website – It is almost finished and I am so happy with how it is turning out. I’m still working on some copy, but the end is in sight.

Post on Baked Bree at least once a week. I wrote here more than once a week. It is so nice to be here consistently and to interact with all of you. I’ve gotten so many kind messages and emails, thank you. It’s always nice to know what people are reading. I’ll be doing the same on my photography side once it has launched.

Make 30 films (4 of which cannot be of my family) – I completed two (a little grocery shopping video and a newborn session) and have a lot of footage that needs to be edited. I give this a half done. 27 to go and 3 non-family.

Go to bed earlier and wake up earlier – I’ve been in bed much earlier than normal and I’m waking up feeling rested. Funny how that works. I also took the phone out of my bedroom. I was using it as an alarm clock, but I replaced with an Echo Spot. I’m not scrolling Instagram before bed anymore and I also think that is helping with the better quality of sleep.

Drink more water and move more – This is a work in progress and I didn’t do a great job this month.

5 more countries (Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Morocco, Slovenia, Spain) – We crossed Switzerland off the list. We went for a quick weekend for William’s birthday. It is beautiful but really expensive. We booked a summer trip to Slovenia and I am really looking forward to relaxing on the lakes.

Be a better friend. I think that I will always be working on this one. I did go out to lunch with some new friends this month and reached out to some old friends that I haven’t spoken to in awhile. It was nice to reconnect and catch up.

Launch website and post weekly – I’ve been working on this one for so long, I can’t wait to be done.

Post 4 times on Baked Bree – I need to get ahead on this one and make some things to share with you.

Make 4 films and edit what I have shot in January. – The shooting it is not going to be the problem, the editing is going to be the hard part.

Drink more water. I need to make an effort on this one. Maybe fill a pitcher in the morning?

Move more. I need to find some good classes. I don’t love the gym, but I like a group class.

Continue with the Contentment Challenge. I had a few minor slip-ups, but overall I did a good job in January.

Go on a one day trip adventure – Ava and I went to France this week on a pottery trip and I don’t know why I don’t do this more often.

Oh I’m so excited you are working on a photography blog! I love seeing your photos here and on Instagram.

I really need to do monthly goal lists. I have so much I want to tackle this year but my brain is so scattered I keep forgetting things. I’ve been tinkering with my blog (wanting to get more active on there) so maybe that’s something I’ll add in a sidebar, as a reminder.

Thank you, Amanda! My monthly goals have really been so helpful for me to get things done. And posting them here really keeps me accountable.

I like to set short goals for a week and month. This can be done quite conveniently in iSmart.Life app. You can also create tasks and link them with goals and then track the progress of the goal. This is a very simple and free web app. I recommend try it.

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out.

Bree – from a veteran homeschooler (25 years and now done), you & your family have made a life-changing decision. Congratulations! It’s a scary, frustrating, exhausting ride, and yet at the same time, the most rewarding investment in your family and your kids. I could go on for hours, but will stop now. If you want encouragement to stay the course and some thoughts on why, please feel free to email me.

You are so sweet, thank you so much for the encouragement.
