I need to thank you for the kind messages and comments about last week’s Happy Friday post. Thankfully, the government has turned back on, and we are crossing our fingers that it stays open after the 15th.

The kindness of people has been overwhelming. It was incredible to watch people come together and champion for what is right and for the people that serve their community. People were so generous to our service members and it will not be forgotten.

It was a challenging month and I am happy that it is over. I’m also happy that it isn’t dark at 4:30 pm anymore. Now it gets dark at 5 pm, but I’ll take any extra sunlight I can get.

I went downtown a few times this week. I had lunch with a friend and spent the rest of the afternoon walking around and exploring on a quiet weekday. On the weekend, you can’t even think in the market hall it is so busy. On a Monday afternoon, you can casually peruse the produce at leisure. The flowers are also magnificent.

Happy Friday: Volume 13

I cooked a lot this week. I perfected a Rice Krispie Treat recipe (I’m sharing it on Monday), I made them five times this week. In the last 36 hours, I’ve made lunch for Wes’s office – salad, garlic rolls, lasagna, Kahlua Cake, and my perfected Rice Krispie Treats. I made 48 cupcakes for my neighbor’s kids birthday party and jackfruit pulled pork sandwiches with HOMEMADE burger buns. I cleaned my kitchen today to hospital-like specs. So I will not be cooking anything else for the rest of the weekend. Kids – you’re on your own. Just don’t make a mess in my clean kitchen.

I’m in single mom mode this week, Wes is in the States and I would be lying if I didn’t say that I am incredibly jealous. AND he gets to watch the Super Bowl. Not in the middle of the night. I’m going to be skipping it this year. Last year, the kids had the Monday after off and William and I pulled an all-nighter and had a midnight breakfast party since the game starts at 12:30 am. It was a lot of fun, but we were hurting the next day.

Maybe I’ll make myself some nachos anyway.

WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE THIS WEEK //

I have a semi-complicated relationship with church, but I don’t have one with Erin Moon. She is a bible scholar and an absolute gem of a human. She wrote a guide for Lent and I’ll read anything she has to say about anything. If you aren’t following her on Instagram, you are missing out.

This is one of my biggest peeves. Parents over-sharing about their kids on social media. I am very sensitive to the fact that my children’s story is not mine to share. Especially when it comes to their struggles and challenges. Our kids are the first generation that will be able to see their whole lives play out on social media and maybe they aren’t going to be comfortable with what we shared about them?

Making this weekend. These look incredible.

WHAT I READ THIS WEEK //

The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo – I LOVED this book. It was so different than anything I’ve read lately and it will be a frontrunner on my list of best books of 2019. I didn’t realize that it won’t be released until the 12th. It was my Book of the Month Club selection this month.

The Lies We Told by Camilla Way – This was a quick read that kept me guessing until the end. Gone Girl-esque.

For Better or For Worse by Margot Hunt – How far will you go to protect your child? It’s hard to like the main character, but it kept me thinking about it long after I was finished reading it.
