Happy Friday: Volume 4

Hello and happy Friday!

I’m currently typing this from the ultra-glamorous food court on base. I’m waiting for the middle school dance to finish so I can take Ava home. The last few weeks have been particularly crazy. I didn’t see Wes for almost two weeks because of a work thing, sports, field trips, dances, and of course more baking for cross country and PTA. This is the last weekend of sports until winter sports start and I’m not gonna lie, I’m excited to have my weekends back.

We haven’t had a lot of recovery time on the weekends to rest and recharge. I can tell that my kids need some. They are tired and a little cranky. (One is really cranky, but I won’t name names.) I miss my kids. Will leaves for school at 6:45 and Ava at 7, they don’t get home most nights until dinner time. It’s a lot. They are doing fun stuff, but it is tiring.

I went on a field trip this week to the Wilhemia Zoo. It is so close to our house and I forget to go there. I’ve been in the summer when it was really busy, but this week it was nearly empty and it was so nice to just walk around. The kids loved being able to be so close and spend time with the animals. I also didn’t know that the cafe is such a hidden gem. I had such a good pumpkin soup, I’ve been thinking about it ever since I ate it.

Halloween is this week. I am a terrible Halloween mom. I consider myself to be a creative person, but I have zero when it comes to Halloween. This year is kind of sad though. I only have one trick-or-treater left. The big kids aren’t dressing up. Ava wants to hand out candy and William is going to take Clay out to trick-or-treat (sans costume – as the SUPERVISION). We have reached a new point in parenthood.

These bats were *almost* cute. They live in te butterfly house and play with the butterflies.

Have you ever had jackfruit? It’s a fruit that double as pulled pork. Weird, but really good. You wouldn’t know the difference. I had no idea that is what it really looks like. (The picture on the far left.)

Have a great week!

WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE THIS WEEK //

‘Tis the season!” I might see if I can convince Wes to take me to see Halloween.

Now that my school baking requirements have lessened, I can bake for myself again. I think I’ll start with this.

There is never a bad time to learn something new. Age is nothin’ but a number.

This is scary/pretty.

Well, this guy is just fascinating. And he has some excellent tips too.

Mine involves a granny sweater, a fireplace, and a fluffy blanket. Preferably at a cabin on a lake.

This might need to be an outside activity, but it’s super cute. I’d like to do this one too.

I love being a part of this community and am always inspired by the work these women produce.

Making ASAP.

Wes and I have been vegetarian going on 3 months. We get asked this a lot. Also, when did it become socially unacceptable to not eat meat? It really weirds people out sometimes.

I like the tongue behind your teeth trick.

I’ve been to quite a few of these places and they are in fact spooky.

Wes spends a lot of time in really cold places. He’s eaten some of these delights. I’m gonna give quite a few a hard pass.

SAME.

Going to learn (okay, teach Wes) how to do this STAT,

I bow down to this dog.

Okay, now I want to go on one of these, but probably without the kids.

WHAT I’VE BEEN READING //

STILL READING // The Witch Elm by Tana French – I’ve been anxiously awaiting this book to come out. I LOVE Tana French and while I am only 1/3 of the way through, I am really into it. It took a bit to get into, but now I can’t put it down.
