Hostess Gift Idea: Glogg Gift Bags

Ingredients for a mulled wine gift

Hostess Gift Idea: Glogg Gift Bags – Say thank you by giving your host a warm winter drink for another night. Glogg or mulled wine is a perfect gift.

When we lived in Cape Cod, my friend Lynn shared her recipe for German Mulled White Wine with me. It must have been foreshadowing of some sort because I became obsessed with it and made it so many times for the next few years. She got the recipe from her time living in Stuttgart. Little did I know that a few years later, we’d be living in Germany.

We moved to Germany and mulled wine is absolutely everywhere as soon as the temperatures drop. You can’t go to a Christmas Market and not get a mug of Gluhwein. Everyone walks around with their mugs of steamy hot wine. I collected mugs from as many markets as I could. It was one of my favorite parts of Christmas in Europe.

Wes and I took a trip to Copenhagen and we went to Tivoli Gardens. It was there that I had Glogg for the first time. I normally am not a fan of red wine, but I absolutely fell in love with it and it became a staple in my house last winter. I made it all the time and loved having a comforting warm drink and the way that it made my house smell. I’m a fan.

I thought that it would be a perfect thing to deconstruct and give as a gift to friends and neighbors. How nice would this be to give to the person hosting Thanksgiving to enjoy to start the holiday season?

It’s super easy to put together and you probably have most of the things you need already.

How to Make a Glogg Gift Bag

  • You do not need to use a bottle of expensive red wine. Honestly, a mixed red is fine. You are going to add spices and flavorings to it, but it does need to taste good to start with.
  • Homegoods is a great place to buy a pack of cute holiday linens to wrap the bottles of wine in. I got the striped napkins in a pack of 10 for less than $20.
  • If you want to add to the gift, include a few cute holiday mugs.
  • I used 6-oz glass jars to hold the sugar and ingredients for the glogg. (affiliate link)
  • I like to buy clear bags for packaging in bulk. I use them for packing cookies, treats, and for the loose ingredients in this gift. I reach for them time and time again.
