Surprise Inside Cakes Cookbook Giveaway [closed]

surprise inside cakes

This might look like a plain white cake, but inside there is a surprise. Are you ready for it?

surprise inside cakes

A rainbow of frosting! My super sweet friend Amanda Rettke of I am Baker just published her first cookbook, Surprise-Inside Cakes!!!

You guys, I knew that Amanda was crazy creative and talented, but really – this book blew my mind. How she came up with so many different ways to put things inside of cake is nothing short of amazing. My children have flipped through this book many times over the last few days and ooh and ahh every time. Sidenote, they also like to remind me that I never thought to put a candle inside a pumpkin cake. Or anything inside a cake for that matter.

This book shares step-by-step images so that you can make these amazing cakes too. There are lots of gorgeous pictures (most step-by-step) and lots of detailed instructions. Whether you are a brand new baker, or have been baking for years, you can make these cakes and impress all of your friends and family.

And even cooler, she has a brand spankin’ new class on Craftsy. I love a Craftsy class, and I cannot wait to watch Amanda make some cakes. I have been lucky enough to watch her make a rose cakeΒ in person, and that girl knows her way around a piping bag. Her double piping bag trick changed my life when I was decorating cookies this Christmas.

rainbow frosting

I decided to make a variation of the Maypole Cake in the book. I wanted something that was simple to make but has serious wow factor. And wow it does.

I made two boxes of cake mix and baked them in 9-inch cake pans. I cooled them, and then froze them for a few hours. I cut each layer in half. You will have one extra layer. Snack time!

Now, I am sure Amanda is probably a pro at even layers, but I am not. But maybe the biggest surprise is that it didn’t really matter. Lopsided cake tastes just as good as even cake does, promise.

rainbow frosting cake

I added a generous layer of colored frosting in between each cake layer. Then I gave it a thin crumb coat and froze it for about an hour or so. It makes frosting so much easier. After the thin layer has chilled, I then frost it completely.

surprise inside cakeWhen you slice into the plain white cake and a stack of beautiful colors land on your plate how can you be anything but happy? Seriously, how pretty is the inside of this cake?

surprise inside cakes

To celebrate Amanda’s new book you can win your own copy ofΒ Surprise-Inside Cakes. To enter, leave a comment on this post telling me who you think deserves a surprise! This giveaway closes Wednesday, March 19th 2014. Winner will be chosen at random and will be notified through email. If the winner does not respond within 48 hours, a new winner will be chosen.

Congratulations to #154! Sabrina said, “My twin sister loves cooking and cannot get her hands on enough cook books. She would adore this as a gift for getting into the university of her dreams. Also, in all honesty, I would LOVE to enjoy her creations. <3”

Seriously, you are some of the nicest people around. I loved reading your comments. I think that everyone here deserves a surprise!

Ok…obsessed!! I never realized how many fun ways you could make a cake! I checked out her blog after reading this post, and I literally can’t get enough.

I LOVE the engagement ring cake in her video, and I’m so confused as to how it happens. My good friend Jenna just got engaged, and she’s the sweetest, most adorable person I’ve ever met. If I could figure out how to do the engagement ring cake with the buttercream roses, I would absolutely volunteer to make the cake for her engagement party!!

My mum. We just lost our beloved dad last week. It was a sudden departure. Now most of my siblings going back to their own home in another town, it would be nice to bake something special for her. I too, need an exciting lesson the book can offer to distract me from the grief and sorrow of losing our dear dad.
    : ( thank you.

All of my friends deserve desserts and they receive them from me often, but this time my family deserves a surprise. They support me staying at home while I spend 70 hours a month in volunteer work and 30 hours a week working nights as a line cook – no rent means I can save to travel the world. My dad loves simple desserts and my mom loves bright colors so I want to make them this cake. My little bro is 17 and working on his recent diagnosis of bipolar. I love them all. Thanks for reading πŸ™‚

My son will turn 23 in early May. I am loving watching him come in to his own. He is a wonderful young man who works hard and is also going to junior college to pursue career as an EMT/Paramedic. He has a gentle nature, is strong, has a great sense of humor and is kind of heart. It is such a gift to be able to spend time with him and know that he is happy and looking forward to a career that he has such a passion for.

He also loves sweets and desserts, so this would be the ultimate surprise for him, and also a great birthday extra. Thank you for the opportunity to enter this contest. It’s always so much fun to bake for him and watch him as he enjoys whatever it may be, right down to the last bite, along with an iced cold glass of milk.
