It is hard to even call this a recipe, but something that I make at least twice a week. I like asparagus, and I absolutely love it grilled, so here’s how to make the perfect grilled asparagus.

Today’s post is going to be short and sweet. We are counting down the last days of school; I always forget how busy these weeks are. I am looking forward to summer vacation. I like the reprieve from the schedule for a bit.

Grilled asparagus is so easy to make, and takes about 7 minutes from start to finish. My favorite kind of recipe. 9 times out of 10, if I am grilling chicken or a steak, I throw a bunch of asparagus on the grill. I drizzle a little olive oil and put the stalks directly on the grates. I take them off and sometimes just add a squeeze of lemon juice, or a little dressing if I have made a salad. Most of the time, it is just a splash of balsamic and some parmesan cheese. The simplest things are usually the best.

Ingredients

FAQs

How do I choose the best asparagus for grilling?

You’re going to be looking for asparagus stalks that are fresh, firm, and vibrant green in color. The tips should be tightly closed and compact. Don’t pick asparagus with wilted tops or wrinkled stalks, as this is a sign of age and won’t be at their best

Do I have to peel the asparagus before grilling?

Nope, but you can if you want to. Peeled asparagus is more tender, so if that’s what you’re after then put the time in to peel them. Really, the only time I would suggest peeling them is if the stalks are particularly thick and woody.

Can I add other ingredients or change the toppings?

You know you can! Experiment and see what you like. Crushed red pepper flakes, lemon zest, minced garlic, or chopped nuts could be starting points. Try one or try them all!

How to Store Grilled Asparagus

Let the grilled asparagus cool completely. Store it in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag. An optional step is a paper towel at the bottom of the container or bag. This will absorb some of the excess moisture from the veggies. Put it in the fridge where it should last for up to 5 days.

You can also freeze the asparagus. Lay out the asparagus in a single layer on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and put in the freezer. Once frozen, the asparagus can go in an airtight container or resealable bag and back in the freezer. It should last for up to 6 months. Reheat from frozen; don’t thaw.
