I bet we have a lot in common. You probably have a busy calendar. There’s work and dental appointments and kids’ music lessons and homework and housework. In between, you’re organizing the family get-together and making sure to buy presents for your goddaughter’s birthday and trying to squeeze in a little date time with your partner and cocktails with your girlfriends. Something’s gotta give, and all too often, it’s the homecooked meal. Enter this lifesaver. The Slow Cooker Turkey Breast tastes like I spent all day slaving over the oven. (And when my spouse says he’ll do the dishes since I worked so hard on dinner, I don’t tell him otherwise). But the crockpot saves the day.

I’ve used the slow cooker for these Pork Carnitas and Buffalo Chicken Chili, but there’s something about the smell of turkey cooking that makes everyone think that it’s a special occasion. The smell wraps you up into thinking that it’s time to turn off the TV, leave the smartphones on the nightstand, and spend some time savoring each other—and the turkey.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

This recipe packs a punch with flavor and nutrients without requiring an afternoon of cooking. Plus, we normally have leftovers, and the turkey tastes just as good the second time as the first—so we get two meals for the work of one. That’s a win-win in my book! Tips & Tricks for a Perfect Slow Cooker Turkey Breast.

  • For even more flavor, I like to let the turkey breast marinate in the spice rub overnight in the fridge. If you’re looking for another turkey dish to try, consider this brined turkey breast.
  • Don’t skip the broiling step: this gives your turkey a crispy skin while keeping the inside juicy and tender. For an alternative recipe with a crispy skin, check out our herb-roasted turkey.
  • You might cook the breast top side down so that it can absorb the juice. For a different twist on a turkey recipe, why not try making turkey meatloaf?

FAQs

I got a bone-in turkey breast. Can I still use this recipe?

Definitely. In fact, a bone-in turkey breast might even be more delicious. Just remember to check cook times—it’ll probably take longer.

How can I be sure my turkey is properly cooked?

The best way is to use a meat thermometer. Your turkey is ready to serve when it hits 165°F in its thickest part.

What if I don’t have chicken broth? Can I use something else?

You can swap the chicken broth for vegetable—or even a white wine.

Can I mix things up with this recipe?

I like to toss in some chopped root veggies like potatoes or carrots.

Serving Suggestions

Let your turkey rest before slicing—but not for too long! You don’t want it to get cold. You can serve the turkey as part of a Thanksgiving (or any time, really) feast, with mashed potatoes, green beans, and stuffing. Or you can slice it up and eat it on sandwich bread or biscuits with a smear of cranberry sauce. For a unique twist, you may also want to try making slow cooker turkey dip sandwiches with the leftovers.

Make Ahead and How to Store

You can make this ahead of time and store it in the fridge for 3 or 4 days. To reheat, add a bit of chicken broth, cover with foil, and warm up in the 325°F oven. You can follow the same directions for leftovers.
