Easy Chicken Seasoning Recipe front shot

I “discovered” this mix one evening when trying to spruce up my chicken. I had been relying on store-bought mixes and my own, very simple blends for a while and thought it was about time I attempted something more complex. So I did my research (i.e., I pulled all the stuff I liked from the spice rack and assembled them on the counter). Then, after a LOT of experimentation with combinations and quantities, I have arrived at this, an easy-to-assemble spice recipe that will bring new life to your chicken.

I’ve made Melt-In-Your-Mouth Chicken, as well as Smoked Chicken Breast, and while one melted and the other smoked, they didn’t have this magical mix of herbs and spices. Give it a try as I have it laid out here and then play with the measurements and ingredients; soon you too will have your go-to mix you’ll prep and keep for chicken nights!

Top Tips For Perfect Chicken Seasoning

  • Use the back of the spoon (or a small whisk if you have one) to break up any clumps while stirring.
  • I suggest storing this in the cabinet, but the important thing is that it is kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Inspect the expiration dates of all your spices.
  • When using the rub, let it sit on the chicken for at least 30 minutes so that the flavors have time to meld.
  • Though I call it a chicken seasoning, you can certainly sprinkle it on your roasted vegetables.

FAQs

Can I use fresh herbs instead of dried?

Yes, just be aware that fresh herbs aren’t as potent as dried, so you will probably need to use more.

Can I use this on other meats?

Definitely. I use it on beef, pork, and even fish.

Can I use this when grilling?

Certainly. In fact, it will give a lovely crust.

How do I make this spicier?

If it’s heat you want, add a dash of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes. Taste and adjust.

Can I use table salt instead of sea salt flakes?

I think sea salt flakes taste better and make for a more interesting texture but regular salt will work just fine.

Serving Suggestions

This chicken seasoning can go with different kinds of meat—chicken, beef, pork, fish—and will even work well with roasted vegetables. It will soon be your go-to addition to any dish that you taste and feel needs “something more.” I have tried it with my Stovetop Chicken Breast, on these Grilled Halibut Fish Tacos, or use it as a rub on these Juicy Boneless Pork Ribs.

How to Store Easy Chicken Seasoning

Put the seasoning in an container (I like to use a mason jar) and keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. It should keep for up to 6 months.
