Go green for your next cookout with these easy-to-make and tasty Grilled Green Beans.
Green beans often have a starring role at potlucks and Thanksgiving dinners (green bean casserole, anyone?). But this super easy recipe brings green beans to the forefront of summer cookouts too. If you’re looking for more summer-side inspiration, why not try Grilled Pepper Salad or a Grilled Corn Salad with Fresh Herbs?
My husband loves to experiment on the grill. And between you and me, some dishes are more successful than others. But his foray into grilled green beans was a total hit. The beans were smoky and crunchy, a perfect companion to his burgers and, on nights when he gets a little fancier, salmon. We’ve taken to eating his grilled creations on our screened-in porch with a cold beer or glass of wine. And when the neighbors stop by, we have plenty to share. If you’re looking for what else can be grilled to perfection, give this Grilling Corn in the Husk recipe a try!
Why You Will Love This Recipe
The best thing—besides my husband doing the grilling—is that I’m filling my body with all kinds of good nutrition: green beans are chock full of vitamins A, C, and K, as well as folic acid and fiber. And with the grill, there’s not a whole lot of clean-up. So it’s a win-win-win! I also love the versatility of this dish: it can go with just about any main or even take the stage as lead actor. If you’re looking for more grilled side dishes, consider trying grilled asparagus with balsamic and parmesan.

Tips & Tricks for Perfect Grilled Green Beans
- Preheat the grill to a medium-high temperature to ensure a perfect char on the beans without overcooking them. For more grilled vegetable ideas, check out our Grilled Pepper Salad recipe.
- Don’t flip the green beans constantly. Give them time to cook on each side. If you’re interested in other side dishes, our Green Beans Almondine might be just what you’re looking for.
- After you take the beans off the grill but while they’re still hot, add the butter. You might also want to try our Grilled Asparagus with Balsamic and Parmesan for another tasty grilled side dish.
FAQs
No grill? No problem! You can bake these beans in the oven at 425°F. Just remember to flip them over a few times to get a perfect roast.
Sprinkle on some garlic powder or cayenne to kick up the flavor. For more crunch, add almond slices or sesame seeds. If you don’t like butter, you can try coconut oil or ghee.
Fresh green beans are best, but frozen will work fine too. Thaw them completely and dry them off before you start cooking.
Serving Suggestions
These Grilled Green Beans make a fantastic side dish to grilled (or baked) meats like brisket, steaks, or chicken. For a veggie-centric meal, fill your plate with green beans, carrots, and Brussels sprouts. They’re best if served soon after grilling.
Make Ahead and How to Store
You can prep your green beans in advance. Just rinse them off, cut off the ends, and marinate them. Then pull out of the fridge when you’re ready to grill. For leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. When you’re ready to eat them again, slowly warm them up in a pan over medium flame or in a pre-warmed oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
